Survey Results (Trailers):

These were my results:

This shows that 100% of the people who answered the survey were within the age range of 16 to 19 years of age. This is very convenient considering i wanted to aim my products towards people who were in the same age category, therefore i think it was a good idea to put it onto twitter.

Question 2: What is your gender?

Female
75.00%

Male
25.00%

Total8

This shows the majority of the people who participated were female. Although these were just a small percentage of my overall target audience, it is still useful to know, as i want my film to be aimed more so towards females than males, therefore i value their opinion a lot when it comes to film trailers.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Question 3: Do you enjoy watching films?

Yes

No

knowing that 100% of the people who answered this survey enjoy watching films is very useful, as i do not entirely need the opinions of people who do not watch films, as they are not who my film trailer will be aimed towards.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Question 4: what is your favourite genre of film?

Horror

Comedy

These were the main answers i got from the drop down box, however i got one ''other'' answer; anime. Since i will be unable to re-create an anime film trailer due to my lack in animation knowledge, i am not going to look too much into this response. However, out of the options, comedy got the most votes, which makes me slightly worried as i am creating a horror film. I stand by this decision however because i feel as though making a comedy would be too difficult, as it is hard to appeal to everyone's sense of humour.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Question 5: Before watching a film, do you watch the trailer?

yes

no

75% of people said yes which i am pleased about because it shows that most of them find film trailers an important part of the film watching process.

Question 6: How important are trailers to you when deciding on whether or not to watch a film?

This shows that the majority of people went with the middle option; quite important and the next highest; very important. One person even said they rely on them. This emphasizes my theory from the previous question; that young people are very influenced by film trailers, and use them to decide whether or not to see a film. From finding out this information, i know that i must make my trailer very enticing, as i want my audience to want to see the film it is advertising.

Question 7: Rate the following on how much they influence you to see a film:

There are a lot of results here to analyse, however i am going to take out the important facts. There was two votes in the '100% affects my decision column' and they were for the plot, and the quality of the film trailer. This shows that in order for my target audience to want to see a film, there must be a good quality trailer with an interesting plot. This is useful as i know that this is what i will need to focus on. On the other end of the spectrum ('doesnt affect my decision') both Directors and the Film Company have 4 votes each. This means that i will spend very little screentime on the directors and film company, and more time on the quality of my product.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Question 8: where do you most typically view film trailers?

On TV
12.50%
1

Social Media (e.g. YouTube)
75.00%
6

At the Cinema
12.50%

Total8

This shows that the majority of people in my target audience use social media the most. This is interesting because it means that i can use this knowledge and include social media into my product, with perhaps a hashtag or an app etc.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Question 9: Do you prefer full length trailers or 30 second previews?

Full Length
62.50%
5

Short Previews
37.50%
3
Total8

The majority of people prefer the full length theatrical trailers, therefore that is how long the duration of my film trailer will be; approximately 2 minutes.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Question 10: Have any movie trailers really stood out to you? can you name them?

Hunger games
8/19/2014 4:01 PM View respondent's answers
Catching Fire
8/19/2014 3:44 PM View respondent's answers
50 shades of grey
8/19/2014 3:40 PM View respondent's answers

Three people answered this question; two of them said the hunger games films and one person said 50 Shades of Grey. In order to get a better sense of their preferences and favourite movie trailers, i will watch these 3 trailers and take note on the conventions used within them, in order to find out what is so like-able about them, in order to apply these findings to my own work.
