Possible Fonts for Film Trailer:

At the end of my film trailer, the title 'Shadows' appears. I have used DaFont.com to search through a selection of possible fonts that i could use for this section of the trailer. Below are some possibilities.

Out of All of these fonts, i think the best to use would be
because the letters are made from trees/branches, which are related heavily to my theme of the woods. I was surprised to find a font which fit in with my ideas this well, therefore i think i will definitely be using this one. I will leave the link ~here~ for reference for when i start creating my final products.

Location Recce:

My main chosen location is Hesledon Plantation, Seaham. I have chose this location because it is a very large, secluded forest, which gives it a very eerie feel do to the fact it's practically in the middle of nowhere. Since it is so secluded, i couldn't get very near it when taking a screenshot on google maps, therefore i just took a screenshot of a satellite view and a photo of it from far away. This is where the main part of my film trailer will be filmed.

My second location is my college (Sunderland College, Bede). This will be where i film my characters walking out from the college at the end of the day, and it'll be where my main character starts to walk home by herself. This means this will be the first location i will need when filming. I decided to use my college because it is convenient and very accessible to get to and use.

My next location is also at my college, but with the newly built art building. I will use this for it's photography studios when doing the photo shoots for my magazine. The reason i am doing this is so i can achieve HD professional looking photos, in order for it to look as realistic as possible when on my magazine and poster.

List of Resources/Places Needed

  • Sunderland College's Photography Studio (Before the end of November)
- This will require me booking the studio out and getting an appointment to use it, which i will          need to sort out relatively soon.
  •       Access to Hesledon Plantation (Before end of October)
- This is a public area where i will be able to visit any time, therefore i do not need to worry about permission or booking or anything along those lines.
  • Access to Sunderland College's stairs (Bede Campus) (Before end of October)
- I go to college every week day therefore getting this will not be a problem, and it will be the easiest place to film my footage.
  • Access to Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro (Before Final Products Deadline)
- Both of these programs are on every Mac computer at my college however i do not have them at home, therefore the majority of my editing and uploading will be done at college.

Time Management Update #4:

  • I wanted to design and complete a biography for my own film institution by September 19th 2014. I managed to create the name of my institution, design a logo and write a short biography for it all on the 19th, therefore i have successfully managed to meet my own deadline.
  • Also, the deadline for my re-construction task was September 26th, and as today is the 25th, i can successfully say that it has been created and uploaded to my blog in time. I am still on top of my schedule/time management.

Actresses/Models Confirmation:

I need some models in order to take photos of and film for both my main and my ancillary tasks, so i have asked my four close friends, Joanna, Hannah, Tapanga and Jade. They all fit the role because they are all college girls, which is what my movie is featured around, therefore i thought they would be a good choice. Also, i am good friends with them all therefore they will be easy people to work with, as we can work well as a team. The screenshots of our group Facebook conversation shows they all have said yes to my request.

Story Board for Film Trailer:

(Click on the photos to read the text easier)
This is the storyboard of my initial ideas for my film trailer. Obviously when i am filming, i may find that some things work and some things do not, therefore i may keep or change some elements, but this is my general template that i will follow.

Biography of my Film Institution:

Name of Film institution: Dragonfly Films
Founded in the year: 2013
Number of Employees: 40-50
Based: London, UK
General info:
Dragonfly Films is a new independent UK Film institution, situated in London, UK. It was set up in 2013 with £130,000 funding. It specializes in low budget, British films.

Designing my Company Logo:

In order to create a believable film company, i need to create a logo which i will most likely show in my film trailer.  Below is my thoughts and processes when designing my film institution logo.

First of all, i knew that my general idea was a dragonfly inside of a square, therefore i first drew out the shape on photoshop using the ellipse tool, before placing it inside of a box. From here, i needed to decide on my color scheme. Below are a few different try-outs of different colours.

Out of all of these colours, i thought that the red one looked the best, as red is the strongest color out of all of them, therefore the white dragonfly looks the most vibrant when contrasting against it. Below is the Red one.

Next i knew i wanted to have the name of the company below the icon, here is my initial attempt

I thought this looked okay, however when i thought about it in my film trailer, i thought that it might not be clear to viewers what it actually is, as i have abbreviated it here from 'dragonfly films' to just 'dragonfly'. Because of this, i have included the full name title below, which i have decided to use as my final design. I also have added drop shadows to the image and text, as i felt as though the design looked a little too flat/2D.

Planning my own Film Company / Institution:

I have decided to create my own institution, as i feel as though my film trailer won't be of a high enough quality in order for it to be produced by a well known established company such as Film 4 or Time Warner. Not only this, but if i were to make it seem as though it was made by a well established company, it would have to compete with the likes of Universal and Disney in the film market, which is almost impossible due to the limitations of me making a film maker in college. Below are my initial thoughts.

Name:
I think i would like to call my institution 'Dragonfly Films', as i already had an idea in my head of what  i want the logo to look like, and it fits in perfectly with the name 'Dragonfly Films'. After doing some research, i have found that the dragon fly represents change, along with relaxation. I think this is quite suitable for my institution name, as my films are bringing a change into the film industry, as i am creating a brand new institution. The concept of relaxation is also relevant, as when i think about watching films i think about relaxing on the sofa or in bed, and i think this connotation is also familiar to a lot of other people too.

Logo:
I want my logo to be a coloured square with a white silhouette of a dragonfly inside, partially cropping it. Underneath i want the word 'dragonfly' to be wrote in capital letters, with the colors being inverted from the main design. I am unsure on what colour i want to use right now, however i know i want it to be a bright colour in order to contrast well against the white.

Based:
I want my company to be based in England, as i am trying to create the impression of an independent british film. I feel as though a likely and obvious choice is London, as they have the most potential to make films due to the higher budgets than the lesser known cities, therefore i think i am going to go with London.

How many people work for it:
I need to think about how many employees are going to work for my film. I need to consider that there needs to be a camera crew, lighting organizers, producers, editors, a director, script writers etc. All together this reaches a total of around 40-50 people working in Dragonfly Films in order to produce my film.

Year it was founded:
I want my film institution to be relevantly new, as it is still very unknown to the general public. Because of this, i will make it range between the years 2010 and 2014 so that it is only a few years old.

Researching Magazine Institutions:

After looking at my feedback from my pitch presentations, it occurred to me that i need to think more into depth about who will publish each of my products. Therefore, i have started to look into the institutions and companies which own the existing products of each of my tasks.

Future PLC -
Total Film magazine is owned by a company called Future PLC. PLC is a media company which was founded in the year 1985 by Chris Anderson. In 2006, it was the ranked the 6th largest media corporation in the United Kingdom. It publishes more than 180 magazines in fields such as technology, video games, films, cycling and photography. Other magazines Future PLC produces includes; Official XBOX magazine, Windows: The Official Magazine and Guitarist.

------------------------------------------------
Bauer -
Empire Magazine is owned by a company called Bauer. Bauer is a large European founded in 1875, and is a media company that manages a portfolio of magazines, radio, digital products, and TV stations in markets across the world. Originally a small printing house in Germany, Bauer entered the UK with the launch of Bella magazine in 1987 and became Britain's third largest publisher.  Other magazines published by Bauer magazines include: Q magazine, Kerrang Magazine, and Take a Break.

Time Management Update #3:

The deadline for my Pitch presentation to show off all my current and initial ideas was August 12th 2014. Today is the deadline date and i have successfully managed to upload my Pitch Powtoon presentation and i have also managed to get feedback from the class, so my time management is good and up to date.

Feedback from the Class - Pitch:

After showing my class my pitch presentation, each of them wrote feedback onto my sheet in each of the boxes. Below is the sheet.

Overall i am happy with my feedback, as the sheet allowed people to not only tell me what they liked about my presentation, but they also were able to tell me about the things i could have done better. For example, a few people mentioned that i could have discussed which institution/company would publish my product, which is something i need to consider and think about.

Pitch Presentation:

This is my pitch presentation which i will present to my class. I have done this in order to put down all my ideas so far, in order to show everyone else to get feedback from them. I made this on Powtoon, and have included my main ideas for my film trailer, my film magazine and my film poster, along with my knowledge on the target audience, and what i did during my summer task.

Flat Plan - Poster:

As i am creating products for my main and 2 ancillary tasks, i thought it would be a good idea to plan the layout of them out on paper, so that i will have a planned guideline set out on how to structure each of the products. I may change or alter some of the decisions made on these flat plans, however i think its very useful to have a base that i can refer back to.

This is my flat plan for my film poster. I am still not overly sure on what subject to use for my main image, and i think i will try out both ideas during my photo-shoot, however i am certain on the rest of the design in my flat plan. I have made the main image the focus of my poster, as it is what will draw the most people, due to the fact that main images are usually the primary focus of the film poster. Because of this, i need a powerful main image, because i think first impressions are crucial when it comes to film posters, as it will help the viewers decide whether or not to see the film. I have made sure to include the credit to the actors and actresses at the top of the page, as if this were for a real film, the famous actor/actresses may help influence the viewers into watching the film.

Flat Plan - Magazine Front Cover:

As i am creating products for my main and 2 ancillary tasks, i thought it would be a good idea to plan the layout of them out on paper, so that i will have a planned guideline set out on how to structure each of the products. I may change or alter some of the decisions made on these flat plans, however i think its very useful to have a base that i can refer back to.

This is my flat plan for my ancillary task (the magazine front cover). I chose to stick to a rather generic magazine layout, as i want it to look as professional as the existing magazines that are well distributed on shop shelves. I have made the main image the main focus of the magazine, and i want my actor to partially over the masthead, in order to portray the impression that this is a well established magazine. I have added a few cover lines to the left and right sides of the magazine in order to show the reader what's inside, which will give me a chance to think of some really enticing article ideas which could possibly draw more readers in. I have ensured that i added the essential information in the bottom corner, which will include the price, issue number and the date. Ive added a banner to the top and bottom of the magazine because i decided to do this with my music magazine during AS media, and i thought it was very effective. These will include things like 'INSIDE:" followed by a list of films that the magazine will cover.

Summary of Survey Results (Posters):

After looking at each of my survey results individually, i can now put together a short summary of what a sample of my target audience's likes/dislikes are in terms of film posters:
  • 100% of my target audience enjoy watching films
  • 90% enjoy film posters
  • The majority of people in my target audience mostly see film posters in bus stops and cinemas
  • Film posters entice 90% of my audience to see a film every now and again

Survey Results (Film Poster):

This a prezi showing screenshots and graphs of each of my questions that were featured in my questionnaire. I thought it would be a good idea to use prezi to display them rather than just copy and pasting them straight into blogger, as it is a lot more interesting and a more media rich way of displaying my results.  Below is the prezi, and underneath i have analyzed my target audiences answers in order to see what the overall result and outcome of each question is

Question 1: Do you enjoy watching films?
First of all i needed to make sure all my target audience were fans of films, therefore my first question was straight up "Do you like watching films?". 100% of these people said yes, therefore it reassures me that i have chose the right target audience; teenagers who like to watch films.

Question 2: Do you enjoy looking at film posters?
Next, i needed to see whether or not my target audience were familiar/if they enjoyed looking at film posters. 90% of these people said yes, therefore i know that film posters are very relevant to my target audience and it is important that i create an appealing poster.

Question 3: Where do you most often see film posters?
For a chance to see where film posters are most likely displayed/noticed, i asked my audience where they most often see film posters. The most popular answer (60%) was in bus stops in public, closely followed by at the cinema. Something interesting to take from this shows that i need to make a poster which is portrait orientated, in order for it to fit inside the bus stops etc; it wouldn't be wise to defy the typical conventions for the sake of being different.

Question 4: Do film posters often influence you to see a film?
I wanted to know whether or not film posters are relevant to people who are thinking of seeing an upcoming film, therefore i have asked my audience whether or no they are influenced by these posters. 90% said they are sometimes influenced, therefore it is fairly important that i make it as attractive/enticing as possible.

Question 5: When you think of film posters, is there any well known existing ones which initially come to mind?
I thought it would be interesting to ask if there are any popular film posters that are recognized by my target audience. This will allow me to see what types of posters are rememberable, as it would be a good idea to try and make mine rememberable as well. While 50% of the people said they couldn't think of any, the other 50% listed 5 different posters; Jurassic Park, Guardians of the Galaxy, Titanic, Hunger Games and Jaws. Below are these 5 film posters in order for me to reference and look back on when i need inspiration for my own film posters (shown via animoto).

Researching Target Audience - Film Poster Survey:

I have already created and collected results for a survey based on film trailers, and i thought it would be a good idea to gather results for my ancillary tasks as well. Therefore i have created a much shorter questionnaire which is very straightforward and will give me very direct results. Again, i have posted it on Twitter in order to gather results from people my age (the age of my target audience). Below is the tweet.  ~ Here is the survey ~
